EISENHOWER HIGH SCHOOL PTSA MEETING MINUTES FEB. 9, 2011

President Sherrie Schwehr called the meeting to order at 6:35pm in Room 103. Present were Lori Frymier, Sherrie Schwehr, Linda Kincannon, Lynda Otey, Toni Ivey, Kim Griffith,  Rhonda Easter, Susie Ball, Loretta & Eric Franz, Nathan & Julia Griffin  and Stacey Locke. Jason Morgan from Jostens was our guest speaker.

Minutes of the Jan. meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report - January report was presented.

Guest Speaker - Jason Morgan from Jostens spoke of a possible fundraising concept for IKE PTSA to build a legacy of giving by requesting alumni and community donations through automatic monthly contributions. Eisenhower has been a model school for the Renaissance program and this would be another opportunity for IKE to be a model for Viral Fundraising. A guest speaker from Jostens is planned for the March meeting to offer more information. These funds might be distributed to aid Renaissance, Crime Stoppers and PTSA.

Principal’s Report -

Crime Stoppers has been an extremely successful program at IKE. Anyone can call or text to report crime completely anonymously and receive a cash reward. IKE has done a Crime Stoppers presentation to the Yakima School District.

Uniform Dress will not be required for Fall 2011 but instead begin Fall 2012. A survey taken last Fall found 70% of parents and 97% of staff in favor of uniforms.

IKE will be going to quarters instead of semesters for the 2011/2012 academic year.

A thank-you was given to Ms. Locke for moving forward with these programs to create a successful learning environment for our students.

Legislative Budget Cuts are a real concern for the new school building project since matching funds are a large part of the funding resources.

Senior Party- A Senior Parent meeting will be held March 22nd. The next fundraiser will be the IKE/Davis staff basketball game on March 18 and then the 3rd Annual Craft and Yard Sale on March 19th &  20th .  Onsite registration was this afternoon and 6 more vendors bought tables. VENDOR SPACE IS STILL AVAILABLE. Help will be needed for setup Friday (the 18th) at 4pm, Saturday morning to get the vendors unloaded from 7am-9am and teardown on Sunday from 3pm-4pm. The senior party will be at the National Guard Armory and have a Hawaiian theme. Davis will do setup and have their party on June 1st. Ike’s party will be after graduation on the 2nd and we will do teardown and cleanup. There will be a DJ, casino, food and games with lots of cool prizes.

Old Business-The Standing Rules will not need to be changed. WSPTA is already listed as our agent to the IRS.

New Business- Members are needed to serve on the nominating committee for next year’s officers. Parents of JUNIORS are needed for Baccalaureate, Honors Convocation and the Senior Party.
