Eisenhower High School PTSA December 2011, Meeting Minutes

President Lori Frymier called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Present were Lori Frymier, Kim Griffith, Stacey Locke, Lisa Allison, Susie Ball, Melanie Gilmore, Annette Cook and Toni Ivey.

Melanie moved that the minutes of the last meeting be approved as reviewed. Seconded by Susie. Passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Kim presented a written Treasurer’s report.

Principal’s Report: Stacey is pleased with increased participation/involvement of the choir, glee club and staff in the upcoming music assembly. She notes that the College Success Foundation has been telling students, incorrectly, that Hispanic youth must go to Davis to qualify for some scholarships. Actually there is no difference in the availability of scholarships based on which school is attended. Davis is currently about 76% Hispanic, while Ike is 66 – 67%.

Old Business: Reflections: There were unfortunately not many entries from any schools. The event will be at Eisenhower on January 9. The appropriate space is reserved.

Melanie reported on planning for the senior party. A deposit has been made to reserve the Armory. Three individuals are co-chairing the yard/craft sale. She has prepared letters to the parents. She sports there wasn’t a large group at the last meeting, but they are very enthusiastic. Casino tables are lined up so overall she feels things are moving along well. $575 in donations to the party was presented to the treasurer. She is also pleased that she and the Davis senior party chairs (Bill Gilmore and Kathy Tierney) are cooperating well. Stacey will distribute a newsletter in mid-February. Melanie will submit info re the senior party.

New Business: The leadership class will be holding up signs in support of the upcoming levy at 40th and Tieton. They are also placing yard signs in the neighborhood. Annette and Stacey are looking for adults to help with sign holding at 40th and Summitview. Dates are 1/30, 2/2 and 2/14. Signholders are needed at: 7 – 8:30 am, 12 noon to 1 pm, and 4:40 pm to 6:30. Lori will work on a signup sheet, but all are invited to contact her to volunteer or with questions.

Lori reports that fewer than 200 students/families have linked their Safeway card to Ike via the Escrip program. This is a good source of revenue for us, so we talked about ways to increase participation.

Present were representatives from the class of 1961. They donated $1270.72 to the Ike PTSA and Renaissance, funds left over from their recent 50 year reunion party.

An Ike Intramural teacher is seeking info to develop after school activities.

Toni presented info about her idea for a very special senior trip to Hawaii.  There was a great deal of discussion of the pros and cons of such a trip, but no final decision made.

Lori closed the meeting at 7:40 pm. Next meeting is 1/11/12 6:30 – 7:30, although there will be pizza with the principal at 6 pm
